Leading Scottish salmon producer Bakkafrost Scotland is to continue its relationship with the Isle of Skye Half Marathon 2023, which will include a new 10k event for the first time this year.

Saturday’s (10 June) event will see the introduction of the 10K event, which is a chip timed run starting from the 11k Half Marathon marker following a single-track closed road through brooding, dramatic and spectacular countryside.  Runners will enjoy breath-taking views of the world-famous Skye landscape.

Under a miraculously rainless sky, Race Dunvegan made a welcome return to Dunvegan Castle for the first time since 2019.115 runners turned out on Saturday 25th March to take on the part forest trail, part road course as they were piped to the start line by Alan Mackenzie and members of the Skye Pipe Band just back from their successful trip to Arizona for the Phoenix Scottish Highland Games and Tattoo.

The Skye Events Team are excited but with a little hint of nervous energy for Saturday 26th March and the return of Race Dunvegan.  It’s been three years since we were last able to hold this race in the stunning gardens at Dunvegan.  Custodian Cecilia [we love this job title!] and Marketing Guru Rocío Albiñana, who we know as Ro [but her name is too fabulous not to use in full] are the Dunvegan dream team.  It's been an absolute pleasure to work alongside them. We’ve been dotting the ‘i’s’ and crossing the ‘t’s’ and now all we need is you lovely runners & walkers.  We’re crossing fingers that we’ll see an eager, perfectly formed, lycra clad crowd down at the Castle slipway revved up to 10k or 5k or fun run.

Try Hard 2 Try Harder

The Stephenson family, Sarah, Paddy, Cailean and Aodhan have added a final twist to ‘The Skye’s the Limit’ challenge. For the final 24 hours they will be running a marathon, one (and a bit) miles per hour. Team ‘Try Hard 2: Try Harder have been one of the top teams throughout the challenge.  The challange asks teams to put in as many exercise hours as they can over a month; raising money for Skye and Lochalsh CAB and Skye Cancer Care.  The Stephensons have been in the weekly top 5 in both fundraising and time spent exercising. This is particularly impressive as Cailean and Aodan are only aged 10 and 11. Event Organiser, Sam Crowe, wanted to find out a bit more about this family team effort.
