A Skye Santa Dash to Remember
The magic of Christmas is alive in Portree

The crisp winter air with minus temperatures, and not just slight concern from the team about slippery roads and pavements, was delightfully filled with laughter and music as 186 Santas and santa paws, elves, reindeers, aliens, the 12 Days of Christmas, and a whole string of christmas lights took to the streets of Portree for the annual Skye Santa Dash.

A sea of red and green descended on a town ready for the festive season, bringing with them an abundance of Christmas cheer. The spirit was infectious, spreading from person to person like wildfire.

Young, and not so young ,joined in the fun, faces beaming as they ran, walked, or pranced along the route. The sight of so many people coming together to celebrate the spirit of Christmas was truly heartwarming.

The camaraderie was palpable, with folk greeting each other with smiles and friendly waves, some who may not usually chat, some maybe strangers. Even the most jaded of hearts couldn't help but be touched by the magic of the morning.

But the real magic of the Skye Santa Dash was the sense of community that it creates. For one day, everyone is equal, united by their love of Christmas and the desire to spread joy to others.

The Skye Santa Dash is more than just a race; it's an experience that will stay with you long after the last Christmas carol's been sung. It's a memory forever, a reminder of the power of community, the joy of giving, and the true spirit of Christmas.

We have a roll call of thank-yous starting especially with the fabulous Skye Events Team, our equally fabulous and amazing marshals & volunteers - we just couldn't do it without all of you.

An extra special thanks to Billy & Emma & Alan at Shanks Plumbing & Renewables. Their Sponsorship keeps this event alive by supporting costs, goody bags, prizes and the time they give us to make it all happen 👏🫶. We are there biggest cheerleaders. Thank you 🙏
A big cheer from us to Donnie MacLeod at Community Services & his team. We were panicking on Friday night about the ice and even mentioned the "c" word [cancel!!!]. But they responded to our SOS at the drop of a hat at the crack of dawn to check the route, clear dodgy patches & put down grit & salt. They don't get enough recognition for the work they do - yesterday they were our superheroes.

Thanks to Alan and The Skye Pipe Band for once again bringing the ceremony - what an asset they are to Skye ❤️ More thanks must go to The Portree Hotel who stepped in with The Granary out of action for warming drinks & great scran. Thanks to The Granary who couldn't host us, but helped with catering. Thanks to Lorna at Light Up Portree for her support & the loan of kit. Thanks to Isle of Skye Candle Company for donating prizes. To Catriona who went out of her way to make sure our mascot costumes arrived for the day 🙏. To Adam & Suzi SkyeRadio and the West Highland Free Press for their support and talking us up. To Chris Attwood for getting down to Broadford & putting up all our posters. Fingal Centre / Arainn Fhinn & Mears as always for hosting us. Thanks to good friends as Sports Systems for their back-up with registrations helping things run smoothly. And of course to our paramedics Dave, Rae & Alan from MERT keeping us safe. All of this beautifully collides like two supernova to make the day happen. Final thanks must go to Geraint at Alligin Photography who gives his time to tell the story of the day in images. We have to agree his photographs are fantastic - download them to your own social media & share them with your family & friends & don't forget to tag us.
Most of all though, thanks must go to all those who 'dashed' and turned out in the cold to support everyone and who helped make this year's Skye Santa Dash such a success. In a world that can sometimes seem so gloomy and dark, days like this are the beacons we should draw to - making Christmas extra special for so many people.

Merry Christmas! See you at the next one - Saturday 30th November 2024
